#FIBAAmericasWomen2015 - It's almost crunch time for Chile
by: FIBA

SANTIAGO (2015 FIBA Americas Women's Championship) - The time is quickly approaching when Chile will be put to the test.

The FIBA Americas Women's Championship (9-16 August) tips off in less than a month and the Chileans, who finished sixth in the 10-team tournament a couple of years ago, should have a better idea of their prospects following four games against Ecuador on 17, 18, 19 and 20 July.

Then on July 25, Chile will fly to Brazil to square off against Venezuela, Colombia and the Brazilians.

"I haven't had a chance to play against other countries, so I don't know how we are advancing compared to our competition," wrote Chile's Vanessa Leeper Jones in her Chasing Olympic Dreams blog.

"These games in July against teams (Ecuador, Venezuela and Brazil) from the Group B will be a great opportunity for me to get my feet wet with the types of teams we will encounter at the FIBA Americas tournament in Edmonton."

Chile will play in Group A against Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Canada.

"Ultimately, to me it doesn't matter who our competition is," Jones said.

"What matters is that our team comes together, we become our best, and we peak at the right time."

The winner of the FIBA Americas Women's Championship will clinch a spot in the Rio de Janeiro Games while the sides that come in second, third and fourth will be invited to the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Among the players Chile will expect big things from is Ziomara Morrison, the team's leading scorer and rebounder a couple of years ago.

Morrison averaged 23.3 points and 11 rebounds per game.

A 1.95m center, Morrison is one of Chile's most famous players and is always in demand.
